Villa Paradiso Villa Paradiso Series Book 1 edition by Ted Atoka Literature Fiction eBooks

For those interested in a story that outlines the plight of those in a nursing home facility, this is the story to read. As a former worker in a nursing home, I can say that the author's description is dead on accurate. Staff with attitude, non-existent budgets and accounting inaccuracies of the drugs distributed is pretty close to what I used to work with. Everyone of the staff had major attitude problems and rarely gave good care of the residents. It was very sad and hard to work with.

This story is very similar to my real life job except when a major benefactor swoops in and begins the process of properly caring for those who live there. Two elderly women saving those from their own generation. It's hard to comprehend but they are the hero's of the story.

The reader will experience many emotions throughout this book. I highly recommend it!

Villa Paradiso Villa Paradiso Series Book 1 edition by Ted Atoka Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

As a writer of thrillers and horror, I was sceptical about reading this and certainly did not envisage that I would enjoy it. Ted's words flowed wonderfully and his characters drew me into this feel good story. There were several humourous incidents; something I would not have related to a retirement home. His words were wonderfully crafted and I did not want this to end. I will certainly read the sequel and look forward to it. Cracking read, Ted!
Ted Atoka is a master storyteller who calls upon his own experience in his latest book, Villa Paradiso. The story begins with an unlikely friendship between people from different generations, cultures and countries who hatch a plan for a retirement facility in the unlikely but-very-real town of Bowlegs, Oklahoma.

The story brings them face-to-face with the thorny patches of retirement and the razor-sharp edges of business as they strive to build a brick-and-mortar version of their vision. The problems they encounter - and conquer -- will make you groan, laugh or occasionally find yourself with moist eyes as the idiocy of the world washes over them.

You'll find yourself drawn into their plan and want to make suggestions to them. Few books make you want to applaud when things go right for the characters, but this is one of them. When you reach the last page, you'll want more.

You'll be glad you read this book, because it's one of the best this year.
Ted Atoka’s Villa Paradiso is a delightful mixture of really big money, hubris, youth with nothing to lose, senior citizen widows relieved of conventional and expected behaviors, down-home Oklahoma characters and cooking, and dreams of a better life for all. Atoka has managed to mix all these ingredients, sort of like one of the heaping savory dishes delivered to obvious strangers in the booth of a small town café, into a story that addresses the question what would you do if you knew you were in the beginning stages of early onset Alzheimer’s, had massive amounts of money at your disposal, and were suddenly given the opportunity to buy a run-down rest home in Bowlegs, Oklahoma? Atoka’s main characters—a couple of aging Texas ladies who are multi-millionaires, or more likely multi-billionaires—answer that question easily buy it, build a beautiful new Villa Paradiso on the site, pull in all the local talent you can find, move down there, and turn the day-to-day operations over to a bunch of kids just out of college then sit back and watch it all work. Or, maybe, blast the vehicles out from under a couple of equipment thieves. Or, perhaps, go to the shooting range with every antique weapon you can find. But most of all turn your personal dreams into new and better lives for a whole lot of rural Oklahoma folks, all deserving and appreciative. The author, who’s obviously been down a dirt road or two, actually shows us what happens when smart people with adequate resources invest wisely, and courageously, in American human capital. If you’re over 50, call ‘em up immediately and reserve your apartment at Villa Paradiso.
Not only does the author keep the reader in suspense about the comings and goings-on at the retirement center, but he captures the essence of life in the "twilight" of the characters' lives. It is a good read, moves quickly and I couldn't put the book down. Good job, Teddy boy!
Ted Atoka's writing style is unique and well done. Not the story I expected, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an good read.
I enjoyed this little book immensely. A diverse group of characters placed together by chance, and each willing to live a dream. Totally new environment for some of them, home and comfortable for others. Mr. Atoka showed a rather unique way to approach character development, and I find the story refreshing and fun.
Normally I read mysteries, but found this a light hearted, fun story. Love the creative vocabulary of the older characters. Love the young people mixed with the elderly. Good outlook on serious medical issue of Alzheimer's. Will read more
