In the midst of war, Soren's sister, Eglantine, unwittingly becomes a spy for Kludd, leader of the Pure Ones, a group of evil owls. She is brainwashed by an owl sent by the Pure Ones to infiltrate the Great Ga'Hoole Tree. Her odd behavior eventually attracts attention, and Soren and his friends vow to find out what's wrong with Eglantine. They ultimately learn what happened and help her reverse the effects of the brainwashing. Kludd continues to battle against the Guardians of Ga'Hoole for control of their tree. In the end, Kludd and his forces are defeated, but his conflict with Soren is not yet over.

Yet another great Ga'Hoole book! I do have some problems though. 1) There's too big of a time gap! This book takes place A WHOLE YEAR after the last one! 2) Ginger is never properly explained. All we know is that Ginger used to be a Pure One, but we don't get a backstory or anything. 3) Nyra's chapters. Spoiler for a big plot twist coming up by the way. I mean, I get waging war and all, but abusing Eglantine to the point where she thinks Nyra is her mum? That's a new low, even for a Pure One. I'd say 8 out of 10, was pretty good but no reread this time.Product details

Guardians of Ga'Hoole Book Five The Shattering (Audible Audio Edition) Kathryn Lasky Pamela Garelick Inc Blackstone Audio Books Reviews
Loved the detail this book creates in your mind, I felt like I could almost touch the fire. I am glad that we are now learning more about Egg as well. I feel like I'll have the whole book series done by the end of the week!
I would Like to add, I usually hate to read, this is the only book and series that I just can't put down! I am starting to be question by by my friends if I am feeling alright because reading has never been my thing and I have made that known. So, Kathryn Lasky, thank you for helping me finally discover the joys of reading!
Very good book in the series, I give it two thumbs up.
I love this series. The author is so smart making impossible situations possible but still touched with huge risk. It makes all time lovers continue to read this great book, filled with adventure, excitement. This series is good 8 and up; there's a bit of violence. Not real stuff, but more, creative and not horrifying. AMAZING! Constantly told I'm too old to read this, but I dig good authors with good plots. This has it. This is making a turn in the series for good; I feel she's getting better in her writing.
I don't know how Ms. Lasky does it! This is another fantastic example of her work. All the suspense and details are amazing, and the story introduces a new idea of being "shattered" by flecks, which was kind of foreshadowed in the previous book while in the hatchery at St. Aggie's. I liked how the books focused on a different character, Eglantine, Soren's little sister. Once again, these stories are worth every cent.
My granddaughter loves the whole series!
So i finished this book about a week ago. I like how the story switches to another character. I still can't get over how The Journey focused so solely on Soren, I nearly forgot about the others. I really wish Lasky would expand more on the other three owls. It was an interesting book and Ginger seemed like she was possessing Eglantine. I like the twist on it with Nyra being Eglantines "Mother". And poor Primrose! Still the end was weird though. We never really knew what happened to Primrose after they returned to the tree but the it ended on an epic note.
Daughter decided to get the ebook instead of paper copy.
My sons (8 years old and almost 10) have both really enjoyed this whole series. We all like reading together at night still, even though they are now obviously reading fine on their own. We have had a hard time finding books after devouring all of Harry Potter this past year, and these have become our next favorites. The characters are well developed and engaging, and the kids--and sometimes me, too--laugh out loud at the taunts of Twilight. I also like that the themes underneath this have led us to discussions on history, racism, and geography. I've recommended this for our school, and thanked the librarians for pointing it out to our family.
Yet another great Ga'Hoole book! I do have some problems though. 1) There's too big of a time gap! This book takes place A WHOLE YEAR after the last one! 2) Ginger is never properly explained.
