Nineteen-year-old Rory Fisher is all but orphaned and alone in the world. Her only remaining loved one is her Yavapai grandfather, a once proud Indian, who is stricken with a diseased mind and confined to a nursing home in Twin Falls, Idaho.
In a rare moment of clarity, the old Yavapai suddenly informs his granddaughter that the Spirits have spoken to him and the message is clear. She must leave immediately, on this very day, back to the land of his people in the red-walled canyons of Arizona.
The true purpose of the journey remains a mystery as Rory embarks on her quest to a place called Vortex Canyon, located in the wilderness just north of Sedona. She travels with only the promise of her grandfather; the promise that his Spirits will guide and protect her.
However, will the Spirits speak to Rory, a Caucasian girl adopted by an Indian family, and not of true Yavapai blood? Was the training her grandfather gave her as a child enough to reach out to the Spirit World in adulthood?

I loved this book. It kept you on the edge of your seat and was very hard to put down. I finished it in record time. Great author!!
It's a fast read. Would recommend to someone who has nothing else to read. It passes the time a way.
It had a creative story line although the wording was a little cheesy at times and the events were predictable.
Story was about a struggle for life or death. And the good won! Also, it told of how wrong intentions get most people badly in the end. A good book all around. And had some good ponts about Native American people.
this book was about the believes and spiritual happenings of the Indian tribes of California,Ariz,and the way the still hold to believed
I was immediately hooked. It's a lively, suspenseful story that kept me turning the pages long after I should've been in bed. My favorite kind of story! Reminiscent of Stephen King's style and nuance, it's a great read that seems to fly by and leave you longing for more when it's over.
A well-written story of the spiritual world and beliefs. The author leads the reader to visualize such in-depth colors, sounds, smells, and actions that it makes this story a page-turner! I enjoyed it immensely!
